For the first time in what feels like an eternity, the sun is out in the St. Louis metro area. After a cold and rainy April, it finally feels like spring. Now you can get the kids out of the house and encourage them to be active, to put down the tablet and burn some calories. Nice weather and fun outdoor activities let a kid truly be a kid.
As school is winding down, we know that summer vacation is fast approaching. A calendar can’t tell you when summer is truly here, and neither can looking out the window. No, the one sure-fire way to know that summer is here is when you here I’m bored. It’s an inevitable, annoying fact of summer life.
Physical activity is crucial to good health, and the CDC recommends that children get 60 minutes of exercise daily. It can be hard to motivate kids to do so, especially in a technologically driven world full of digital distractions. How can you get them to exercise? Force them? Negotiate?
By far the most effective way is to make exercise fun.
